HOW TO CLEAN YOUR AIR CONDITIONING VENTS

Extensive use and simply time can cause your air vents to start looking filthy. The vents can collect a lot of dust, dirt, and other particles from the air, such as pet dander, hair, pollen, and mold. Below are some simple steps to follow in order to clean your air vents easily and thoroughly:

  1. Turn off the power to your HVAC system.

  2. Remove the vents. Some can be easily popped off, while others may require a screwdriver.

  3. Vacuum the opening to the duct to remove any excess debris or dust.

  4. Wipe down the vent grills with a duster or rag to remove surface debris.

  5. Prepare a container of warm soapy water and soak your vents for 10-15 mins.

  6. Dry your vents with a towel and put them back in place.

  7. Replace your air filter. Routine air filter replacement is important for quality indoor air and HVAC maintenance. If you find your filter to be clear, there is no need to replace it at this time.

  8. Turn your system back on and enjoy fresher, cleaner air for several months.

Think about cleaning your vent covers regularly, at least once or twice a year, depending on how quickly they accumulate dust and dirt. When you replace filters, check your registers as well. Learning how to do this can be effortless and will eventually become part of a routine to help with energy costs. Take the time to give yours an overhaul this season and contribute to preventative maintenance.
